Brecon Beacons

Just a 30-minute drive from our hotel, you’ll find the mountains of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. One of the most iconic National Parks in the UK, the Brecons are a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The range includes Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales and Cribyn.

The National Park covers 520 square miles, and it's one of the best places for walking and nature spotting. One of the most diverse regions in the UK, you can encounter mountains, lakes and waterfalls, picturesque towns, castles and even a canal.

For history enthusiasts, the Royal Welsh Museum provides a glimpse into over 300 years of military heritage.

Powis Castle and Garden

One of the most popular mid-Wales attractions, National Trust-owned Powis Castle is a must-visit. Built in the 13th Century as a medieval fortress, the imposing castle is beautifully furnished with paintings, furniture and fabrics from the Elizabethan to Edwardian period.

The world-famous landscaped gardens include 17th-century Italianate terraces, an Edwardian formal garden and a peaceful wooded area.

Hay-on-Wye

Located on the Welsh/English border, Hay-on-Wye is a charming market town renowned for its literary heritage. Also known as the town of books, Hay-on-Wye is famous for its annual Hay Festival, a vibrant celebration of literature and culture.

Stroll along the high street, lined with enticing bookstores and independent shops, and immerse yourself in the town's rich history.

The National Show caves Centre for Wales

Situated in the Brecon Beacons, this site of specific scientific interest was voted Britain’s finest natural wonder and is one of the most fascinating attractions in mid Wales.

Explore the three unique caves with vast caverns, underground waterfalls and decorative passageways and discover the life of our ancient ancestors.

The National Showcaves Centre also includes an Iron Age village, playground, dinosaur park, farm, museum and shire horse centre.

Henrhyd Falls

One of the most beautiful natural attractions in Powys, Henrhyd Falls lies in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The highest waterfall in South Wales can be reached on foot along the Nant Llech walk, which begins at the National Trust car park near Coelbren.

There are some steep climbs and descents, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views along the way.

Ceredigion Coastline

No visit to mid-Wales is complete without a visit to the stunning Ceredigion coastline. Explore quaint fishing villages and harbour towns and trek along the rugged Ceredigion coast path. Cyclists will enjoy the picturesque Ystwyth trail and, if you prefer to take it easy, sit back and spot dolphins from the sandy shores of Mwnt beach.
