The finest Welsh hospitality
Welcome to Lake Country House Hotel & Spa, a relaxing rural retreat in the heart of Wales.
Situated between two of Wales’ most iconic national parks, the Brecon Beacons and Eryri (Snowdonia), our hotel is the perfect base for unforgettable adventures.
Owners Pierre and Jan Mifsud have been welcoming guests to Lake House for over 25 years. Our long-standing reputation as one of the finest country retreats in Wales is based on the tranquil atmosphere, impeccable service and supreme comfort.
Hotel History
The Lake Country House Hotel was built in the 1840s as a hunting and fishing lodge, where gentlemen could partake in these activities within the hotel’s extensive and secluded grounds.
When the local railway opened in the 1860s, guests arrived from all over the country to partake of the Barium waters available at the spa. As well as bathing in and drinking the recommended one or two tumblers of barium water, other sports could be enjoyed at the hotel, including lawn croquet, tennis, bowls, boating and golf.
After the Second World War and the exclusion of spa treatments from the National Health Service, the hotel could no longer rely on its health-giving virtues, instead focusing on traditional country house hospitality and the country pursuits that had made it such a success over the first years of its life.
The Grounds
Set in one of the most secluded locations in rural mid Wales, our 50 acres of glorious lakeside grounds and mature woodland are one of the hotel’s most outstanding features.
From games of croquet on the lawn to afternoon tea on the terrace and long, leisurely lakeside walks, our enchanting grounds continue to cast a spell over our guests (some have been known to never leave the gardens during their stay!).
